Nonlinear effects induced by closed orbit deformation in SIS18

چکیده
For the SIS18 operations as booster for the SIS100 it is necessary to maximize its intensity and minimize the beam loss at nonlinear resonances. The understanding of the beam loss mechanisms needs a full experimental and theoretical beam dynamics study in order to quantify each source of the nonlinear errors in the machine. First results of a novel technique to identified the strength and locations of the nonlinear errors are presented here. Compensation of the resonances is an important issue for the improvement of the machine performance. In the framework of the SIS18 upgrade a measurement on resonance beam loss induced by closed orbit (CO) distortion was carried out. CO errors are relevant for feed down effects of multipoles, which generate unwanted resonances [1]. A static tune scan

Using Local Bumps for correcting the SIS18 Closed Orbit
In the framework of the SIS18 upgrade several measurement campaigns on the closed orbit (CO) and its correction were carried out in February-May 2006. The CO correction is important for machine operation: the better the CO is corrected, the fewer beam loss occurs during operation due to increase of the machine’s acceptance. CO errors are also relevant for feed down effects of multipoles, which ...
متن کاملOrbit response matrix method applied to SIS18 for lattice optimization
The Orbit Response Matrix (ORM) method was applied to model the GSI heavy ion synchrotron SIS18. Using the horizontal and vertical closed orbit (CO) data we are able to calibrate 18 steerers (6 horizontal and 12 vertical), 24 BPMs (12 horizontal and 12 vertical) and 24 quadrupole gradients (12 horizontal and 12 vertical). We present the results of several measurements done in February-April 200...
متن کاملStability and power optimality in time-periodic flapping wing structures
This paper investigates the nonlinear dynamics of a vehicle with two flexible flapping wings. The body dynamics and the wings’ deformation are monolithically grouped into a single system of equations, with aerodynamics accounted for by a quasi-steady blade element method. A periodic shooting method is then used to locate closed orbits of this non-autonomous system, and Floquet multipliers asses...

متن کاملDynamics of nonlinear rectangular plates subjected to an orbiting mass based on shear deformation plate theory
In this paper, transverse and longitudinal vibration of nonlinear plate under exciting of orbiting mass is considered based on first-order shear deformation theory. The nonlinear governing equation of motion are discretized by the finite element method in combination with Newmark’s time integration scheme under von Karman strain-displacement assumptions. For validation of method and formulation...
